Sheriff's Dept. conducts countywide warrant sweep; 32 arrested

San Diego County Sheriff's Sgt. Richard Goggin has reported that the agency conducted a widespread warrant sweep throughout all of San Diego County on Saturday, March 1.

According to Goggin, the Sheriff's Dept. Court Services Bureau field division covered areas throughout the greater San Diego area including North County communities.

"The focus of the operation was on the apprehension of suspects with outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants," explained Goggin. "A total of thirty (30) adults were arrested on misdemeanor warrants and one (1) adult was arrested for a felony warrant."

"An overall total of thirty-six (36) misdemeanor warrants and one felony warrant were cleared. The warrant charges included: driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license, domestic violence, vandalism, narcotics and petty theft. The deputies went to in excess of seventy-five (75) residences."

Goggin said the sweep was funded by the Sheriff's Warrant System Automation Trust Fund. The trust fund is made up of assessment fees collected from people who have violated a written promise to appear in court or otherwise failed to comply with a court order.

Goggin said, "The San Diego Sheriff's Department will continue its efforts in the apprehension of wanted subjects. Persons who have outstanding warrants are encouraged to turn themselves in."
