Taylor receives community service award

Barbara Taylor, 82, of Fallbrook was awarded the Area X Community Service Award for 2004 at a recent meeting of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International at the Area X annual brunch at the Lake San Marcos Country Club. (Delta Kappa Gamma is a society for women educators. Area X encompasses North San Diego County and South Riverside County.)

Barbara is a member of the local Theta Delta chapter and has been a Delta Kappa Gamma member for 27 years. She was president of the LIFE Foundation (Learning Is For Everyone) for two years but served as a board director for five years. She served as Area I director (Northern California) for two years and as California State Chair of Ceremonials. Prior to 2000 she belonged to the Beta Psi Chapter in Northern California, where she served as president for two years. She has been involved in community theatre in both Fallbrook and in Northern California.

Barbara was awarded the Crystal Star Award from the California Commission on the Status of Women for her work as an appointee of Governor Pete Wilson to the board of the Sonoma State Developmental Center. She was the director of the School-Aged Parenting and Infant Development Program at the Vallejo Unified School District for 15 years and holds a BA in speech/English from the University of the Pacific and an MA in special education from San Francisco State University. She holds two state teaching credentials: a general secondary credential and an orthopedically handicapped credential.
