Two new traffic signals slated

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved the advertisement for bid and subsequent award of a contract to install traffic signals at the intersection of Reche Road and Gird Road and the intersection of Mission Road and Alvarado Road.

The 5-0 vote May 18 also establishes an additional $280,000 of appropriations into the Department of Public Works Detailed Work Program, bringing the total budgeted amount to $530,000.

“Very important, needed improvements, and happy to see the board’s action today,” said John Snyder, the director of the county’s Department of Public Works.

In March 2002 the supervisors had approved placement of the intersection of Reche Road and Gird Road on the county’s Traffic Signal Priority List. In November 2003 the supervisors approved placing the intersection of Mission Road and Alvarado Road on the Traffic Signal Priority List. The 2004-05 budget process had included $250,000 of gas tax revenue for the traffic signal at Mission Road and Alvarado Road, and the additional $280,000 of road fund balance will allow for the signal at Reche Road and Gird Road.

No outstanding right-of-way issues exist for either intersection. Construction of the signals is expected to begin in July and be complete by December.
