UPDATE: 20-year-old Fallbrook man charged with attempted murder in the first degree resulting from fight on Stage Coach Lane

UPDATE: At 3:55 p.m. today (Tues., Aug. 19), the Sheriff’s Dept. provided an update stating that both of the victims in this case were 23-year-old males who reside in Fallbrook. In addition, the man who was critically injured is now in stable condition in the hospital.

Authorities ask that anyone with information about the incident call the Sheriff’s Dept. at (858) 565-5200.

(previous story)

A 20-year-old Fallbrook man was arrested last night (Mon., Aug. 18) after two men were stabbed at a fight on Stage Coach Lane, one being left in life-threatening condition.

According to Detective Steve Ashkar, the incident took place about 7:50 p.m. in the 200 block of N. Stage Coach Lane in Fallbrook.

“Fallbrook deputies received a radio call of a fight in the 200 block of N. Stage Coach Lane,” said Ashkar. “The reporting party on the call said there was a stabbing at her house.” Ashkar said a suspect was seen running from the scene southbound on Stagecoach Lane.”

“Deputies and, later, detectives responded to the crime scene to investigate the case,” said Ashkar. “Two stabbing victims were hospitalized. One of the victims was in critical condition and was transported via helicopter to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for a partially-severed carotid artery.”

Ashkar said that victim’s condition is still unknown, but that the other victim was treated and released.

“The investigation revealed the assailant to be 20-year old Fallbrook resident Guy Roman,” reported Ashkar. “Roman turned himself in after it was made known to him from friends that he was wanted in the case.”

Roman was subsequently booked into the Vista Jail on charges of attempted murder.

Sad, sad, sad!!! Anger management would have helped in this case. I just do not get it, people who are suppose to be your friends, and things get out of hand. Drugs or alcohol involved?

The friendly village must be so proud of itself.

I only moved to Fallbook a little over three years ago and I am surprised about the amount of crime in what is supposed to be a sleeply little village.I guess you really don’t get what a town is all about just by visiting relatives. Fallbrook seems to be distinct towns, the downtown and the ares about a mile from downtown.Downtown areas don’t seem to be the safest places after dark.

  5. really   August 19, 2014 at 11:14 am

Please … Fallbrook is very safe..Yes there is crime like every place on the face of the earth. If you dont feel safe carry a gun. done

  6. Veronica   August 19, 2014 at 11:34 am

Anyone know the status of the guy at Palomar hospital?

  7. town   August 19, 2014 at 12:25 pm

I feel town is pretty safe. This kind of activity is more focused on people that are just not doing the right thing or hanging with the wrong people. My family goes on walks down Main on a regular basis (from the start of Main in the south to Main/Mission at the north side and back), sometimes later in the evening and we never feel like we are in danger. We see other families, say "hi" and we mind our own business. It’s when you are involved with shady people or shady activities that you get into trouble (usually), but I think town is safe and don’t really feel uneasy.

  8. Resident   August 19, 2014 at 12:35 pm

I’ve known the suspect for a number of years. Sadly, drug use has greatly affected him.

  9. Why?   August 19, 2014 at 12:58 pm

Why did they get into a fight?

  10. Mike   August 19, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Dont be fooled, The guy in the hospital is named Derek and when he was down on his luck I let him stay with us to get him on his feet and later he came back and stole several handguns from my house when I was not home. Can I say Karma

  11. Marcos   August 19, 2014 at 1:33 pm

You really don’t hear too much about violent crimes, compared to other places in San Diego, like the North Park area. I agree with ‘Really’s’ comment, for the most part it’s safe, if you disagree look into arming yourself. We bought a home less than ayear ago, and its been great.

  12. Re mike   August 19, 2014 at 1:44 pm

Hahaha that is funny karma is a drag

  13. local kid   August 19, 2014 at 2:07 pm

No pity from fallbrook, hes lucky hes behind bars cause these streets are evil and carmas a b, at least the low lifes r kilking eachother, savin some tax dollers in my eyes. Now cops can tend to more important matters like parking tickets.

  14. grunt   August 19, 2014 at 2:10 pm

Jim – Fallbrook is relatively safe; crimes against persons are usually committed by 1) someone you know (above) or 2) gang v. gang. So, pick your "friends" and don’t join a gang and you will be ok. Oh, keep your house and car locked, because those crimes are ramped.

  15. Fallbrookmommy   August 19, 2014 at 5:06 pm

Guy Roman really messed up his life. Sucks how you grow up knowing someone is gonna do something great then they mess up their lives in a blink of a eye. I spend my highschool years to nervous to talk to him and too shy to even try. A highschool crush that lasted years. I thought I woulda held him back from greatness. Turns out he held himself back. Such a shame. So much talent and greatness wasted and taken for granted.

  16. Crime isn't the only problem   August 19, 2014 at 8:27 pm

After reading the "local kid" comment, I’m more concerned about the education the kids are getting here in Fallbrook.

  17. MADDIE P   August 19, 2014 at 9:34 pm

Guy is a great guy.. I can’t believe he would do something like this…. I guess he got drunk and got in a fight and took it way too far. But he turned himself in so that should say something about his character… the “victims” probably started it and guy finished it. I hope the best for him and will always care about him ♡ FTS

Fallbrook has really gone down hill. We recently moved back to the coast of Oceanside after living in Fallbrook for over 14years. I feel safer here than I did in the village. It doesn’t take the police 1hr to resond to a hit and run or wait over 45 minutes for an ambulance after your child has been struck by a car (we actually drove to the hospital ourselves). Yes, it definitely has it’s small time charm and we made some wonderful friends but there needs to be some better community participation and clean it up the way it was 20-25 years ago.

  19. fallbrooook   August 19, 2014 at 10:17 pm

Guy Roman is something else .

I guess we could all assume what really happened, but until we know the whole truth, we should question everything. That house is known for drug activity, and these people should find another avenue, away from everyone else, to park their lives and drug habits. I think the desert would be a great place to do their business. When people become a nuisance to their villages or cities, they need to be removed. Send in the removal crews.

  22. CR   August 20, 2014 at 7:41 am

Don’t feel sorry for those two so called victims!! They got what they were looking for! Both are nothing more than bully’s that go around starting problems. Guy was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just went with a friend to that friends house. Those other guys started trouble, guy was literally fighting for his life. It wasn’t over drugs it was simply because he was there and Garrett and Derek wanted to start trouble, because that is what they do!

  23. Info   August 20, 2014 at 7:49 am

Attempted murder in the first degree would mean he planned it, he carried out his plan. There was no plan. He was attacked people. What would you do if you were attacked by two guys with a knife? Let it happen? Guy carries a knife ever since he was a random victim of violence in front of el torro market not because he was looking for trouble. For protection. He isn’t on drugs. He has had a hard life but he has made the best of it. He was working, had a good job, good girlfriend. He was doing good. If you ask me guy was the victim!

  24. Class06   August 20, 2014 at 8:45 am

This has nothing to do with the community in general this has everything to do with younger kids on dope acting dumb, as long as you keep your distance from these low lifes your fine, they’ll eventually all end up in prison or overdose. Again dumb…..

  25. The Beard   August 20, 2014 at 8:57 am

kinda sad seeing all of you make excuses for Guy, he wasn’t fighting for his life, he wasn’t stabbed, yet he stabbed the victims multiple times. no matter how good of a kid you all think he was, he is not now. its sad that a fight cant just end as a fight anymore. somebody has to die. Derek is tough and somehow pulled through.

  26. CR   August 20, 2014 at 10:01 am

Beard: not making excuses for Guy. He was simply lucky in the fact that he didn’t get stabbed by Garrett. Garrett had a knife and obviously intended to use it. Get your facts straight! Glad Derek didn’t die, but he is no innocent and that’s a fact!

  27. CR   August 20, 2014 at 10:04 am

Look at the several posts about the supposed victims……. People in this town know what Garrett and Derek are like! For years now!

  28. What can we do as a community?   August 20, 2014 at 10:08 am

Vista Community Clinic offers a course called Guiding Good Choices. This program covers:
    – Gang prevention
    – Drug prevention
    – Communication skills
    – Family values
    – Anger management
    – Positive influence

Should Fallbrook Community Center or Fallbrook Library offer a similar program?

  29. hope   August 20, 2014 at 10:20 am

Guy does not use drugs he had a job family and a baby coming along .so he would of not messed things out. He was working hard.guy had a bright future for him coming along he did wat he did to defined his own life . He is the victim and the 2 other guys should be in jail for running him over and rushing him with a knife . Because guy can have his times but he defines him self in fights its with his fist he most have been really scared to take out his knife. And the reason why he cares he’s knife where ever he goes is because right before Christmas a random dude wanted to start problems and stabbed him ever stay in in his chest ever sevens then he didnt feel safe. . Please keep guy in ur prayers because guy doesn’t deserve to be in jail

  30. Seriously??   August 20, 2014 at 12:43 pm

Sounds to me like they are all a bunch of low lives. Perhaps if this "Guy" person were hanging around with a better class of people he wouldn’t have had to get into a fight in the first place. Sleep with dogs, end up with fleas.

  31. hard to read   August 20, 2014 at 1:48 pm

Comment #29 is really hard to read. Wow!

  32. love   August 20, 2014 at 1:52 pm

Maybe guy was with a love one a brother to him .. he didnt know the other guys. Guy was hard working person . And spent all his time with family and his girlfriend family

  33. mom-to-mom   August 20, 2014 at 2:44 pm

Everyone should be turning their hardened hearts to a family whose son is fighting for his life……no judging just prayers….My prayers are with Derek and his family especially his mother….

  34. BrooktownKing   August 20, 2014 at 3:17 pm

Hope, your grammar is horrible and it makes your comment about Guy being a great guy less credible.

  35. fedup citizen   August 20, 2014 at 3:56 pm

You people. He/she without sin, cast the first stone. You all say he a lowlife well EVERYBODY has their problems, and issues so what.. And another thing why does it always have to be because of drugs or alcohol? 80-90% of the time they have nothing to do with it.

  36. Witness   August 20, 2014 at 4:43 pm

None of you were there, so stop making up stories.
It was not self defense in any way at all!!

  37. witness   August 20, 2014 at 5:20 pm

I can’t believe the untruthful comments on here i was 5ft away from it, guy started attacking our friends there was no need for him to pull a knife out he was not being threatened and no one had been touched the fight only started because he pulled out a knife and that’s when our friends tried to defend themselves against a huge knife. All they did was try to leave and avoid the situation but guy would not stop antagonizing them, he almost stabbed a girl, like really? How’s is that self defense? i call it being completely irrational (drugs?) to people he didn’t even know.he was the only danger in that situation and he had us all scared for our lives. Absolutely no justification for guy to pull out a basically 12 in blade all because he was trying to be tough.. Thank you and leave the opinions out and facts in, so if you didn’t see it you don’t know, it was terribly horrific..

VILLAGE NEWS COMMENT: “Witness” – if you were that much of an eye witness at this incident, you need to contact the Sheriff’s Dept. and share your information.

  38. The Beard   August 20, 2014 at 5:25 pm

Fedup Citizen your right everyone has their problems, the difference is not everyone goes around stabbing people in the neck

  39. g   August 20, 2014 at 5:43 pm

Derek is out of critically injure he did not die .he is alive .Derek just messed with the wrong guy because he knew how to survive. GUY ROMAN we have you in our prayers you are a nice person with a big heart and we all know tat if you brought out your knife was because u needed to protect yourself your not alone .

  40. YourDumb   August 20, 2014 at 9:59 pm

Guy stabbing multiple people (one which had a knife and never stabbed guy back) he does deserve jail time and it’s bull how your all crying about JAiL when someone else is suffering. Nobody wanted trouble and guy brought it when he attempted someone’s life with a weapon rather than a fare fight

  41. Re-Witness   August 21, 2014 at 8:48 am

If the violence became eruptive, before the stabbing, how is it that you decided not to call the police prior? I understand it was a terrifying experience, but where was the thought process when everyone saw it coming? Is it because the house you were at or are at, is simply a drug venue for all involved? Come on now, use some common sense and speak the real truth. Guy was also a victim here, and I am sure you won’t speak about that now will you? Just be honest with yourself, if not with anyone else. People heard the screams and witnessed much more after the fact, so please do not act like innocent victims in this.

  42. Seriously??   August 21, 2014 at 8:54 am

I am simply amazed by the illiteracy of the people who were at the "party" and the so called friends of the victim. Did any of you attend school? Did you study?

  43. Re-Witness   August 21, 2014 at 9:02 am

To add to my prior comment. How about the victims in that neighborhood. No one seems to think about that. What that neighborhood had to endure because you people did not have the common decency to keep your hormones and actions in check. What about the people who are around your place, do they matter to you? Think about that for a change. If you do not want trouble, don’t have things at your house that attracts it. Simple!!!!

  44. Witness   August 21, 2014 at 9:09 am

Derek is not out of critical care actually.. He is better yes but still in very serious condition! This was not a self defense case at all, all you ppl on guys side can say whatever you want but yet the truth is NONE of you were there so what you have to say isn’t even going to count. I was there and know the whole entire story. He pulled his knife first when no one was even doing any harm and he started getting crazy with it. He’s now behind bars and that’s exactly where a heartless person like him should be and for a long time for that matter. If anyone wants to argue – I was right there in the middle of it all and can tell you first hand what had happened rather than everyone else who is just relaying stories.

  45. The Beard   August 21, 2014 at 9:41 am

It’s amazing the support that Guy Roman has on here. Innocent people don’t run from the scene. You have every witness on here saying that it was in no way self-defense, yet all you do is discredit their story because you all want to be blind to the truth. Yes he might have been your friend or a friend of a friend, but that doesn’t mean you should blindly support someone who had every intention of taking someone’s life. People need to open their eyes and see that sometimes people just aren’t what they seem.

  46. Another Mom   August 21, 2014 at 9:56 am

Wow…. some of the comments on here are really hard to read. Maybe this "Guy" WAS a nice kid once, but he attempted to kill/murder 2 other people and almost succeeded. Just because he has a family and a knocked up girl friend doesn’t make him NICE…. Most serial killers have families and friends….that means NOTHING in this case. Maybe he was on drugs, but in our legal system that is not an excuse for what he did. And if he was defending himself, then why did he have NO wounds of any kind from these much bigger and older men? That makes NO sense at all. At this point we will see where the justice system takes this.
