Woman killed in Hwy 76 accident identified

SAN DIEGO - Authorities released the name today of an Encinitas woman who was killed over the weekend in a car crash on State Route 76 near Pala Raceway.

Tzerelin Babalcon, 48, was a front-seat passenger in a westbound Mitsubishi Eclipse that collided with an oncoming truck whose driver tried to make a left turn directly in their path just east of Lilac Road shortly before 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Babalcon, who was only ''partially belted'' when the accident happened, died at the scene, the agency reported. Her husband, the driver of the car, was taken to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Woman killed in Hwy 76 accident

PALA - An Encinitas family is in mourning today following the death of a 48-year-old woman killed when the car her husband was driving collided with a truck on Highway 76 near the Pala Raceway.

The crash occurred on eastbound Highway 76 east of Lilac Road about 6:50 a.m. Sunday, June 26 the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office reported. The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:22 a.m.

The Medical Examiner's Office said the woman was a ''partially belted'' front seat passenger in a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by her husband, who was injured in the crash and taken to an area hospital.

The crash occurred as the truck driver attempted to turn left into Pala Raceway in front of the couple's vehicle, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
