VISTA - A woman who drove drunk and caused a head-on collision on State Route 76 near Pala, killing her back-seat passenger, was sentenced today to 15 years and four months in state prison.

Mirella Trevino, 42, pleaded guilty last month to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The Oceanside resident was arrested after the 6 a.m. accident last Dec. 14. According to the California Highway Patrol, she was driving east on the highway in a Chrysler Sebring when she skidded into a curve and ended up in the

westbound lanes, where her car collided with a Mazda Protege driven by a 21-year-old woman from Valley Center.

A back-seat passenger in Trevino's car, 50-year-old Margarita Rodriguez of Vista, was killed.

Trevino and her front-seat passenger suffered major injuries, as did the driver of the Mazda, according to the CHP.
