FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club held its annual Turkey Shoot and Poker Run on Saturday, Nov. 3. The event is a combination of a road rally, treasure hunt, and poker game on wheels. Open to car club members, their families, and guests, 26 vehicles started the run at 9 a.m. from the Fallbrook Public Utility District (FPUD) parking lot at East Mission and Santa Margarita Drive.
Participants were given directions for driving a pre-determined circuitous route from FPUD to the final destination 18.9 miles away at Pechanga Resort.
As each vehicle was released, it traveled the prescribed route with participants looking for five large envelopes marked FVCC that had been attached to poles, fences or trees. The envelopes contained a deck of playing cards and each participant developed their poker hand by picking a card randomly from the five envelopes.
The Turkey Run was also a road rally with each entrant competing to meet or better a pre-established completion time for the run.
John Waugh and Glen Patterson organized the Turkey Run and awarded prizes to the winners at the culmination of the race.
Tom Long and his wife, Valerie, came in first place on the Turkey Run driving their 1947 Chrysler woodie convertible. Ed Vivanco and wife Diane developed the best elapsed course time riding in their 1955 Citroen.
Participants who finished second, third, and fourth place in each event also won awards.
After the run was completed, many of the participants gathered at Pechanga Resort for lunch and revelry.
Besides supporting the community through donations and charitable events, the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club provides a venue for car enthusiasts to meet, have fun, learn, and exchange ideas. For more information on the club, visit www.fallbrookvintagecarclub.org or call (760) 723-1181.
