Mini car show put on for nursing home residents

FALLBROOK - On April 6, members of the Fallbrook Vintage Car Club drove their vintage vehicles to Fallbrook Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) on Potter Street to put on a mini car show for benefit of the patients and their family members. The facility was holding an outdoor, spring barbecue and had asked if members of the car club would participate.

After an enjoyable lunch, the great weather provided the perfect opportunity for the patients, most of them in wheelchairs, to view the vintage and classic vehicles.

Many of the patients recognized certain cars or trucks out of the 20 on display and reminisced about them by telling stories about themselves or their relatives having “this or that kind of a model.” Tales of speeding, mishaps, accidents, first dates, and weddings were also recalled by a number of patients while viewing the different types of vehicles. All in all, the patients said they enjoyed the nice respite from their normal day of treatment and recuperation.

The SNF is a facility that offers both short- and long-term care.

The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club is a non-profit organization that donates both time and funding to those in need of support in the community. For more information, visit http://www.fallbrookvintagecarclub.org.
