Youngren fourth, third in Twin 50s

Irwindale Speedway had twin 50-lap main events for the Auto Club Late Model division June 4, and Scott Youngren finished fourth and third in the two races.

“We had a pretty good car, actually,” Youngren said.

The Fallbrook driver qualified 10th and began the first race on the outside of the fifth row. He moved up to second place before track officials ruled that he had jumped the start on a yellow flag. He was placed in fifth but gained one additional spot.

“We had a good run,” he said of the first race.

Youngren started ninth for the second race, and once again he gained six positions from his original start.

“Didn’t have a car to win, but had a car to take third or fourth,” he said.

Youngren finished ninth in his previous Irwindale Speedway race, which was held May 21. Youngren attributed his disappointing showing to problems with the new setup, and he returned to his old setup which he believes is better suited for his driving style. Youngren practiced at the track the night of June 3, and prior to the races June 4 his pit crew made adjustments based on the practice analysis.

Youngren is sponsored by Brian Burch Construction, Costello’s Auto Repair, MR Tile and Marble, On-Ice Graphics, Jim Pyre Plastering, Racecar Factory, Rancho Racing Transmissions, Ron’s Rear Ends, Shower Pan Man, The Sign Station, Stone Truss Company, West Coast Truck and Auto and Youngren Construction. Stone Truss Company rented a rooftop suite at the track for the June 4 races, and all of Youngren’s sponsors were invited.

“Most everybody was up there,” Youngren said. “We had a good showing for them.”

A total of 81 people occupied the suite that night. In addition to

seeing Youngren finish in the top five twice, they also saw Youngren participate in some side-by-side racing in both main events. “I had

really good races,” Youngren said. “It was just really good fun racing with those guys.”

Youngren’s finishes moved him from third to second in the season standings. “It was just a good night of racing,” he said.
