Bjorn "Chris" Christensen

Bjorn “Chris” Christensen, a loving husband, dad, Morfar, and hero died at the age of 94 on November 16, 2013. He was born August 30, 1919 in Naestved, Denmark to Aage and Anna Christensen. He immigrated to the U.S. with his family when he was 7 years old.

Bjorn enlisted in the Navy in 1939. He served in the Navy all over the world for 22 years until he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. Bjorn was aboard the USS Argonne at the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during WWII. He heroically saved other sailors from the burning water and torpedoed ships with a team of sacrificing shipmates. He was a member of the Tri City Chapter 31 of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

Bjorn met his wife Josephine, a female marine, in San Francisco on leave. They were married on April 15, 1947 in a military chapel in Hawaii. Now he’s reunited with his sweetheart who passed away in 2005. Bjorn and his family moved to Fallbrook in 1986 from Cypress in Orange County.

Bjorn is survived by a sister Bente and his children Cathy Hampton, Mark Christensen, and Frank Christensen. His legacy carries on with 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. A beautiful funeral service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Monday, November 25, 2013. Afterwards, Bjorn was buried in the Riverside National Cemetery with full military honors.
