Donald Gene Fichthorn

Donald Gene Fichthorn, USMC retired, passed away on Thursday April 16, 2015 at the age of 84. He was born on March 28, 1931 in Reading, Penn. to Raymond and Lillian Fichthorn.

Don married his high school sweetheart Arlene Morgan on July 22, 1950. They had three daughters, Sandra who is deceased, Wanda and Donna. His wife Arlene, daughters, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive Don.

Don enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 21, 1949, four days after graduating from high school, and retired on March 31, 1979 at the rank of Major. While retired, Don sold insurance and managed storage units.

He loved the Christ the King Lutheran Church family and Pastors Mark Johnson, Phil Tukua and Kenneth Davis. A celebration of life will take place at the church on Saturday, May 2, at 1:30 p.m. in Fallbrook, Calif.

Don was a member of the Mustangs a club for Marine Corps enlisted men who rose through the ranks to become officers. He was a past president of the Fallbrook Senior Center and served on the Fallbrook Volunteer Senior Patrol. He also enjoyed his time as a volunteer with hospice and the Stephens Ministry at Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Lastly, true to form, Don established a resident’s council where he last resided at Oakmont of Escondido Hills. The purpose of this council was to address the needs and concerns of seniors who called Oakmont home. Don will be missed but our grief is tempered by the fact the he is in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Well-done Don!
