Francis R. "Parky" Parkinson

Francis R. “Parky” Parkinson, 90, of Fallbrook, Calif., passed away on March 12, 2010 in Vista, Calif. He was born June 5, 1919 in Kendallville, Ind.

Parky moved to Fallbrook in 1927. When Parky graduated from Fallbrook High School in 1938, he did not see much of a future for himself aside from picking oranges, grapefruit, or avocados. So with his father’s encouragement, Parky joined the Navy in May of 1939. He served during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

He was the longest serving member of the Fallbrook VFW post 1924, joining in 1942. Parky also served as a civil servant for 33 years. He drove the school bus for the San Luis Rey Academy, among other things.

He was preceded in death by several members of his family and he is survived by loving family and friends.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery in Fallbrook
