John J. L. Ryan, 90

John J. L. Ryan, 90, of San Diego died on Saturday, January 29, after a long battle with prostate cancer. Born in Waukenabo Township, Minn., on June 17, 1914, John was one of 15 children who grew up on a farm in Aikin. He was the last of his siblings to pass.

John was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Alice Mary Ryan; one son, Lawrence E. Ryan; and two grandchildren. He is survived by 10 of his 11 children (listed in order of birth): John J. Ryan and wife Gerry of Chicago, IL; Elizabeth C. Moore of Wheaton, IL; Timothy M. Ryan and wife Pam of Hoppers Crossing, Australia; Mary A. Campbell of Glen Ellyn, IL; Judith A. Simko and husband Andy of Baldwin Park, CA; Paul J. Ryan and wife Laurie of Naperville IL; Peter D. Ryan and wife Robin of Yucca Valley, CA; Patrice H. Ryan of Roseburg, OR; Michael E. Ryan and wife Jackie of San Diego, CA; and Jane A. Cason and husband Jerry of Riverside, CA. Mr. Ryan dearly loved his family and was blessed by his 33 grandchildren and his 31 great-grandchildren, including two who are soon to arrive.

John was a carpenter by trade and built over 10 homes for his own family. Toward the end of his working years he was employed at Disneyland, from where he retired in the summer of 1976. Faith and family were the two greatest joys of his life.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Berry-Bell and Hall Mortuary, Fallbrook, from 5-9 p.m. The service will be held on Friday, Feb. 4, at St. Peter’s Church in Fallbrook at 2 p.m. Graveside services will immediate follow at Fallbrook’s Masonic Cemetery.
