Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Mattern, 87

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Mattern passed away on the morning of Sunday, February 13, 2005, at the age of 87. Betty was thought by many to be one of the kindest, sweetest, most giving people they knew. Her family was her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Mattern; her sons Bob Mattern and John Mattern; and her sisters Ruth Carter, Rachel Cutforth and Peggy LeLong. She is survived by her sister Nancy Peterson; brother-in-law Dean Peterson; son Richard Mattern; daughter Ruthie Harpole; daughters-in-law Donna Gist, Dee Mattern, Carol Mattern and Coleen Mattern; son-in-law Tom Harpole; grandchildren Tim and Gina Mattern, Todd and Rosalia Mattern, Nicki and Bret Jorgenson, Jewellee and BJ Jones, Tanya and Scott Goldman, Jonathan and Michelle Mattern, Emily and Nathan Vail, Lisa Harpole and Michael Harpole; and great-grandchildren Bobby, Angela, William, Katie, Ryan, Tyler, Megan, Alex, Dylan, Allison, Ella, Macy and Audrey — and she was expecting her 14th great-grandchild, Alexa, within a few weeks. While Betty will be sorely missed, we know she is comfortable and in the hands of God and loved ones. She has been an inspiration to us all. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, at Eternal Valley Cemetery, 23287 N. Sierra Hwy., Newhall, CA.
