Kunasz is inventing statements

Peter Kunasz seems to be having an argument with himself. He has invented statements I supposedly made and wasted a lot of time and energy responding to things I never said.

Mr. Kunasz, you have used a deceptive and dishonest argument. You set up a false premise, complete with a twisted version of my words, and then shot it down. Good try, but it won’t work. Anyone who reads the paper can read what I really said, and your saying otherwise doesn’t make it so. I did not say that only those who attended long-ago meetings know how the system works. (Surely you know that newspapers write the headlines of letters to the editor! Or did you not read beyond that?) I said that you have written erroneously and with great certainty about things you could have heard about only secondhand. If you are going to criticize me — have at it! Criticize what I do say, not what you’d like to substitute for my words.

Rainbow’s March newsletter, sent to all ratepayers, says in the chart on page one exactly what I said about water rates. Ag and domestic users pay the same amount to Rainbow. I addressed only ag discounts on water rates. The discussion you had with yourself about meter charges does not tell the whole story about water costs. Relative capacity isn’t the only factor; there are more variables than can be addressed in a letter.

Your advice to attend meetings is good. Please do come, and stay for the whole meeting. All voices will be heard; that’s a change for the better.

I am, as I have said before, a domestic customer. I do not take and never have taken an ag discount. For some reason, a few people are trying to sow suspicion and resentment between domestic and ag ratepayers. Scurrilous lies are being told about the intentions of the new board members. To what end, I do not know. I do know that it is a distraction from truly important issues: applying $4 million annually to infrastructure capital improvement; reducing management goofs like expensive wrongful termination lawsuits and fines for nonpayment of bills; continuing to provide us with an adequate supply of safe water; ensuring that governance of the district is open, transparent, competent, and ethical. All ratepayers benefit from that.
