Let's improve the quality of life

The criticism of Julie Reeder is unwarranted. She has consistently been for the betterment of the Fallbrook community.

The most prominent issues are: 1) against the Gregory landfill, 2) against the high-density project at the northeast area of I-15 and Hwy 76, and 3) for removing the “eyesore” of the old packing plant. These are all positions that people who want to improve the quality of life in the Fallbrook area will agree with.

The reality is that the landfill will probably go forward because Fallbrook voters were outnumbered by those who are remote and will not be affected by it. The law of unintended consequences will surely demonstrate the poor foresight in locating a landfill at that site. I will not live to see the damage that will occur but I am no less concerned for those who will be affected.

And there is a good probability that the dense housing project will go forward because “money talks.” The county Planning Group is bad and generally approves plans from wealthy developers after a “push and pull” time period which they use to convince the public they are looking out for our welfare. There is a stated rule that parcel sizes outside the village center cannot be less than two acres. This only applies to individuals without clout. Developers manage to get around it — witness Peppertree and Sycamore Ranch.

The cost to renovate the old packing plant will be great, and now that there is a person who is willing to take the risk, we all should do all we can to help him, not make it harder for him!

Keep fighting, Julie. You are doing a good job with the Village News bringing news of Local Events to our community and working to make Fallbrook an even better village.
