Opponents to mink raffle need to check sources

Perhaps this individual (‘Mink shouldn’t be raffled,’ 1/20) should make a visit to some fur farms and find out firsthand exactly what farming, and especially fur farming, is all about and what goes on. If the claims of the anti-human animal rights extremists were true, it would mean nothing short of economic suicide for any fur farmer who would find themselves financially bankrupt by producing an inferior product.

No doubt there are some who misuse or neglect their animals, just as some pet owners do. However, they are the exception and not the rule. The first sign of any abused, stressed, or neglected animal is readily evident in the quality of their fur. Most of us have at some time seen abused animals, it’s immediately obvious and it’s not a pretty sight. Looking at the quality of the fur on any fur coat is a testament as to how well these animals are cared for.

If this person does not like fur, regardless, that’s her opinion, don’t buy fur. However, she has no right to push that opinion on anyone else. One has to wonder what she would say if someone determined what her needs were. If you don’t want someone else’s morality pushed on you, then don’t push yours on anyone else. Respect diversity!
