Questions for the County Water Authority

Most people by now probably know that aqueduct pipelines #1 and #2 go through the proposed Gregory Canyon Landfill. Most people probably already know that the pipelines are each 15 feet wide and are the main feeders for San Diego County water. These aqueduct pipelines carry so much water that it is measured in acre-feet rather than gallons.

It is my understanding that the pipelines, by law, need to be moved out of the way so that they aren’t under a landfill. It is also my understanding that the Landfill Project is saying that the pipelines don’t need to be moved and that they can stay in place as earthmoving equipment digs all around them and trash trucks drive over them for 30 years. Are they forgetting what those things are and how much water they carry to San Diego County?

Is the County Water Authority going to allow that? It seems risky to us.

How can the San Luis Rey Municipal Water District (SLRMWD) provide drinking water to the Pardee project, Envirepel, and Gregory Canyon without using the aqueduct pipelines #1 and #2 that go through the proposed Gregory Canyon Landfill? Buy it from Rainbow MWD??? Pardee gave up on that idea for a reason and have now turned to the SLRMWD for help.

There is a County Water Authority meeting slated for February 24. It should be interesting when the Water Authority gets asked how the SLRMWD can be sure they have access to those pipelines.
