We need to look at the performance of the board of supervisors during the last ten years. This January, three new supervisors assumed office and are still serving, including Supervisor Horn. At that time, before the board was a proposal to file bankruptcy just as Orange County had done. This would have increased the cost of money. These supervisors made some hard decisions. Yes, there were some chiefs who were removed from the payroll and the county government was put under top chief executive officer. Good business practices were implemented.
As to the current pay of the supervisors, they are paid less than many school superintendents, fire chiefs, and many government officials with lesser responsibilities. We should not expect our supervisors to be paid less than employees with fewer responsibilities.
