Withdrawing to higher ground

As much as I enjoy point-counterpoint, I will not be replying to any letters written in reaction to my March 24 response to Peter Kunasz.

This is by no means a retreat but a return to my usual practice of writing about issues at Rainbow Municipal Water District. I choose not to waste time correcting interpreters. Readers understand what I mean when I write; no translation is needed.

There are many important issues facing Rainbow, among them:

1. Continuing to fund the $4 million in annual capital improvement expenditures suggested by ratepayers (and subsequently voted for by the previous board, and supported by the new board) as a better plan than the $41 million+ interest of Proposition O, pushed by management and the old board.

2. Addressing the implications of the Pardee pre-annexation agreement and the cut-rate sale of EDU’s to subsidize a developer’s attempt to radically change the character of our area.

3. Stopping the range war some would like to start between domestic and agriculture ratepayers.

4. Ensuring that the workings of the district are open and transparent.

5. Improving the district’s response to customer problems and complaints.

6. Opening up the budget process and making the district’s finances as open and understandable as possible.

The board meets the first Wednesday of the month (except in the month of May) at 9 a.m. at the district offices. I hope to see you there.
