On Monday, Christmas Eve, I worked at the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary (FAS), my usual day to volunteer, cleaning boxes, feeding and helping medicate the pets and I helped adopt two cats. One of the adopted cats was to a volunteer who decided to stay to help after she saw how desperate the need was. No one showed up on Christmas Day, so Janet and Monty were just able to give water and food and take care of all the medications for the sick pets.
I was there again on New Year’s Eve and we had eight volunteers but there was a lot to do as the volunteers have been few these holidays. I wish more of the energetic teens living in our town would step up to help. Most of our volunteers are older people who love animals, but we get exhausted doing it all.
The FAS runs on donations only and volunteers. Please come and pick out a couple of cats or dogs, or help us feed and take care of the rest. If you don’t do it, no one else will either.
God bless the volunteers we have and the wonderful people who donate to the FAS, but we are surviving month to month and every kindness makes a difference. You can donate on the website, donate nice household items for us to sell, send a check or how about showing up more than once in a while to clean and love the pets? They are so lonely.
