Bonsall ranch takes in more rescued Mustangs

BONSALL – Seventeen Native Navajo wild horses, ages 6 months to 5 years old, rescued by the Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF), arrived in Bonsall on Dec. 28. They had been captured in November off the reservation as “strays” and despite their obvious hearty appearance, were claimed to be “starving due to a lack of forage on the reservation.”

More than 2,000 of their four-legged brothers and sisters have lost their lives during the U.S. government funded roundups which the vast majority of Navajo people oppose.

Volunteer rescue team members of WFLF’s Navajo Horses Rescue and Recovery Mission, worked straight through the holidays to save the lives of these fillies and colts. These lucky few Mustangs will be initially pastured and given the opportunity to fully heal and adjust to their new environment.

The most urgent and lifesaving phase of this rescue mission is being made possible through WFLF’s supporters including Lynne Hayes of Horse Spirit Ranch, Linda Harris, director of Ambassadors For Compassion, Inc., and Best Friends Animal Society. “By helping to save these precious, voiceless, sacred lives, we are also helping to build the awareness for the need to protect America’s wild horses from roundups and slaughter,” said Katia Louise, founder, president and executive director of WFLF.

Through WFLF’s educational outreach programs these Navajo Mustangs will also help to educate and show the world that the re-introduction of horses to rangelands, in truth can rejuvenate the environment.

WFLF is an all volunteer 501 c3 charity that relies 100 percent on donations. Plans include long term placement of the horses through the expansion of WFLF’s educational sanctuary program in the San Diego area. Funds are currently being raised to pay for needed transport, vet medical care, feed and hay. Donations can be made on line at http://www.wildforlifefoundation.org and by mail, to Wild for Life Foundation, 19510 Van Buren Blvd, # F3236, Riverside, CA 92508, and are 100 percent tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law, Federal ID No. 26-3052458.
