Grey and mustard yellow will be the hottest colors in 2014 home interiors

NORTH COUNTY – In the late 1970s, home builders began the practice of painting interior walls “Navajo White,” a practice that would continue for decades. From 2011 forward, bold colors surged in popularity – with sienna in the forefront well into 2013. However, going into 2014, the color grey is making bold inroads into fashionable homes.

Grey, the color that connotes intellect, is one hue homeowners will be incorporating into their interiors this year, said Debbie Zimmer, paint and color expert for the Paint Quality Institute, a leading source of information on interior color and design.

In her annual color forecast for 2014, Zimmer is supporting grey in a big way: “It’s the hot new neutral, a sleek and sophisticated color option that adds refinement to almost any room.”

    When I lived on the east coast, it was always said that the west coast was the trend setter. I don’t necessarily believe that any more. Grey – all shades started being very popular about 10 years ago east coast time. Yellows are a scary color and nothing can look worse than poorly chosen or mismatched yellow hues.
