Supes seek new land for active recreation

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors directed the county’s Chief Administrative Officer to seek new land for active recreation in the unincorporated areas.

The 5-0 vote March 14 directs the CAO to investigate the feasibility of acquiring suitable locations for active recreation in the unincorporated areas and directs the CAO to identify potential sources of funding to acquire land for active recreation.

Supervisor Dianne Jacob had initially called for investigating the feasibility of obtaining land for active recreation in East County, but Supervisor Bill Horn amended Jacob’s motion to cover the entire unincorporated area.

“I wanted North County included,” Horn said. “I can always look for more ballparks.”

Jacob had noted that sports and other active recreation help keep area youth out of trouble but that fields in East County were limited.
