Authorities hunt for a shooter in the San Onofre area

SAN DIEGO - At least one person was shot and wounded today (Sun., March 9) at a home in southern Orange County and sheriff's deputies were searching for the suspected gunman's car in the San Onofre area of North County.

The shooting at a house in the 32500 block of Crete Road, near Dana Point, was reported about 10 a.m., said OCSD spokesman Lt. Jeff Hallock. The house is about one mile inland from Monarch Bay, off Crown Valley Parkway.

At least person was shot and transported to a hospital for treatment, Hallock said, adding he didn't yet know if the victim was a man or woman.

"Deputies located a suspect and his car in the San Clemente area,'' Hallock continued. "A short pursuit took place which ended in the San Onofre area and that is where deputies are now conducting a search to try and find the suspect's car.''

Hallock said he didn't yet know the condition of the victim or what had sparked the gunfire. No information about the suspected shooter was immediately available.
