VALLEY CENTER - The San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. has reported that a body was found on Sunday, April 20 in the Hell Hole Canyon Ecological Preserve in Valley Center. It appeared that the person had been dead for several days and appeared to have been disturbed by animals.

Authorities were working to extract the body from a trail in the remote area of the preserve.

Because deputies could not immediately reach the area by all-terrain vehicle, the A.S.T.R.E.A. helicopter responded to the area, surveyed the scene, landed, and dropped off their observer nearby. A.S.T.R.E.A. then shuttled personnel from the command post to the scene.

The Medical Examiner processed the scene and with the assistance of A.S.T.R.E.A. transported the remains from the area. The cause of death is unknown at this time and the Medical Examiner will continue the investigation.
