Camp Pendleton closed to bicycles Saturday, Aug. 1

SAN DIEGO – Camp Pendleton from the Main Gate to the Las Pulgas Gate will be closed to bicycle traffic Saturday. Aug. 1 from 7 a.m. to noon for an on-base special event. The Interstate 5 (I-5) shoulders between Harbor Drive and Las Pulgas Road are also closed to bicycle traffic due to highway construction.

An on-call shuttle will be available for bicyclists who need to travel through the area. Signs will be posted at pick-up and drop-off locations providing the telephone number to call to arrange for the shuttle. Bicyclists are advised to expect some delay in waiting for arrival of the shuttle and are encouraged to travel after the closure hours if possible.

Pick-up and drop-off locations for the shuttle are: Northbound in the east Oceanside Harbor parking lot; and Southbound in the Park and Ride lot at Las Pulgas Road. Caltrans is providing the free on-call shuttle service as part of the I-5 Ocean View Rehab Project.

The freeway shoulders in this area are normally open to bicyclists traveling between Oceanside and San Clemente as an alternate route to Camp Pendleton.

For more information about the I-5 Ocean View Rehab Project, see dot.ca.gov/dist11/facts/5OceanView.pdf. Weekly closure information for this project is available at dot.ca.gov/dist11/infoedge/.
