An Oceanside teenager who went missing earlier this week has been found safe, police said.
Shawn Ryan Dowlearn, 13, was located by officers Thursday — two days after he left his home on Concho Place near Roja Street and apparently took a recently acquired child’s survival kit, according to police.
The location where the boy was found was not revealed.
Officers initially searched the neighborhood and surrounding areas but found no sign of the teen, Lt. Leonard Cosby said. The boy was not believed to have been abducted.
The child’s mother was notified Thursday evening that he had been found in the vicinity of El Camino Real and Vista Rey but that he and a 14-year-old sibling had been placed in protective custody instead of being returned to the home, NBC7 reported.
Authorities initially told NBC7 the teen was taken into custody so they could look into his reasons for running away.
