Motorcyclist killed on South Grade Road after attempting to pass over double yellow line

According to the California Highway Patrol, an Oceanside man was killed earlier today while riding his motorcycle on South Grade Road.

According to public information officer Jim Bettencourt:

“On June 1, at approximately 12:10 pm a 55-year-old male from Oceanside was riding his 2011 Triumph motorcycle northbound on South Grade Rd just north of SR-76 at an unknown speed. According to a witness, the motorcyclist passed him over the double yellow line and continued northbound.

“As the motorcyclist was coming up on a 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by a 45-year-old female from Oceanside he again attempted to pass the vehicle over the double yellow line. He failed to realize that the vehicle was turning left into Oak Knoll campground. This caused the motorcyclist to collide into the left side of the Toyota Corolla. He was ejected off of his motorcycle and slid under the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There were no other injuries in this collision and at this time it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in this collision. It remains under investigation.”

Some people get motorcycles and drive crazy – probably lack of experience played a part. Why would one pass over Double Yellow lines? I’m glad the girl in the car didn’t get hurt.

On Friday, heading to work (I was the first car in line), we were all heading west bound on the 76 from the Olive Hill intersection, when this young guy just decided to pass all of the cars DRIVING ON THE LEFT SHOULDER, and of course decided to merge in front of the first car, right where the shoulder reduces where it is not wide enough for a car anymore. It’s idiot drivers like this that cause these accidents.

Just think. It never would have happened, "if the motorcycle rider wasn’t in such a hurry. His loss.

The guys name was Terry and he is missed very much. He was a great person and good rider. We now very little about what have happened we do not know why he crossed the line if there was a obstacle (piece of wood, dead animal etc..) in the road. So until all the details are reveled it would be very respectful if refrain from using words like: stupid, crazy and or suggest he was not thinking.

When will people get it. Where we are all driving to isnt going to leave. Everybody says time is flying by. Time hasnt changed WE HAVE an hour is still an hour min still a min etc.. All everybody does is hurry hurry people getting killed to arrive if at all to save a few min. People pass me to only to end up a few cars ahead of me at the next light. WOW People that dont have common sense are very dangerous.

I respect your point of view, but if you read the report, it says that he continued to pass over the double yellow lines, more than the one car. So… I don’t think an obstacle would have him passing two cars over the double yellow lines. If he only would have waited a few "seconds" or fraction of a second for the Corolla to turn left, he would still be here.
