Sage Fire fully contained, 135 acres burned

SAGE - The Sage fire was fully contained at midnight Friday night with full control estimated (and fulfilled) at 5 p.m. today.

At 8:20 a.m. Saturday there were, on scene, 9 engines, 6 hand crews, 1 water tender and 2 overhead with a total of 120 firefighters.

Agencies cooperating were CAL FIRE/Riverside, California Highway Patrol – San Diego, Caltrans, Morongo Fire Department, Riverside City FD, Riverside County Fire Dept, Riverside County OES, USFS – Cleveland, and USFS – San Bernardino.

Equipment used while fighting the fire included 31 engines, 277 firefighters, 15 overhead personnel, 3 helicopters, 2 air attacks, 4 air tankers and 11 fire crews, 3 water tenders and 2 bulldozers.

SAGE - Fire officials expected full containment by 5 p.m. today of a brush fire that had burned more than 130 acres near Highway 79, south of Vail Lake.

The blaze started about 1 p.m. Friday when a car caught fire on Highway 79 and pulled off the road, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Nine fire engines, six hand crews, one water tender and two aircraft were battling the fire, Hendrickson said.

Assisting the county fire department are firefighters from CalFire, the Morongo Fire Department, City of Riverside, Riverside County of Emergency Services and the U.S. Forest Service in the Cleveland National Forest and San Bernardino.

Brush fire scorched 120 acres in Aguanga

AGUANGA - A brush fire scorched 120 acres within about two hours Friday in the unincorporated county area of Aguanga, but no structures were threatened, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze broke out just before 1 p.m. and was 10 percent contained by 2:39 p.m., said Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire.

No injuries had been reported as of 3 p.m., Hendrickson said.

The fire was first reported in an area of light grass near the intersection of State Route 79 and Sage Road, she said. Hendrickson said 136 firefighters were dispatched.
