Two men arrested in San Diego in connection with counter-terrorism investigation

SAN DIEGO - Two men were arrested in San Diego over the weekend in connection with a Minneapolis-based counter-terrorism investigation, although it remained unclear early today what charges they may face.

Details on the investigation that led to four arrests in Minneapolis and two in San Diego are expected to be made public later today. Officials with the FBI scheduled a news conference in Minneapolis this morning.

A woman told Minneapolis Public Radio News one of her sons was arrested in San Diego Sunday and another was taken into custody at her Twin Cities home.

A tablet belonging to the San Diego man was reportedly seized. Four other men were also arrested, MPRN reported.

The FBI told the Los Angeles Times via email that agents from the Joint Terrorism Task Force and San Diego field office ``executed arrest and search warrants with respect to several individuals.''

Authorities said there was no threat to public safety.

The arrests came as authorities were investigating around 15 people who allegedly traveled to Syria to support militant groups, according to the MPRN report.
