Pastor Barry Mahler of Calvary Chapel, Fallbrook recently released his first book, “Ungod: Unmasking the Dark Image of Hell,” in which he advises people to understand the image of God and reclaim it from evil.
“My first thought when writing this book was, ‘In the beginning, God created us in his image and evil repeatedly tries to corrupt it.’ I wanted to write a book that helps humanity reclaim the image of God [from evil] because that is a fundamental fact of who we are.”
Mahler believes the key is in understanding the way evil works.
“I named the book “Ungod” because it is what I call the ancient enemy, Satan. It describes his mission and who he is. Evil is the absence of good, just like coal is the absence of heat. It is the absence of everything that God is. Evil is the ‘Un’ of God, the Ungod.”
Mahler urges humanity to consistently work on protecting the image of God within themselves and suggests people are already experiencing having that image taken away.
The author served in the U.S. Navy, then worked as a nuclear plant operator, before changing his life’s path and becoming a substitute teacher for Calvary Chapel. He went on to serve as a youth pastor and other capacities before becoming senior pastor of Calvary Chapel, Fallbrook.
Utilizing examples from his military service in the book, Mahler portrays a war against evil and details battles humanity must struggle and fight through in order to win.
In the book, Mahler discusses topics of love, sexuality, holiness, manhood, womanhood, marriage, freedom, culture, violence and much more. In the final “battle” discussion, he delves into the nature of government, the concept of anarchy, and resetting government.
“Ungod” is a unique book that provides much food for thought and is available online at www.Amazon.com.
