Aloha from Hukilau!

“Aloha” is the first word that diners hear when they are greeted at the new Hukilau restaurant located at the Fallbrook Golf Club overlooking the oak-studded golf course. Owner John Toma, a native Hawaiian, is happy to bring the ‘Aloha Spirit’ to Fallbrook. He and his wait staff define the ‘Aloha’ mood and serve patrons with a friendly smile in a tropical atmosphere, which brings a breath of fresh air to the Fallbrook Golf Club.

When John transformed the Fallbrook Golf Club into a tropical paradise, he began with “lighting up the room” with an appropriate ‘sea foam green’ wall color. The walls were then adorned with tropical-themed paintings by Oceanside artist Steve Barton. These unique paintings with wavy wood frames embody the tropical lifestyle. Surf, sand, palm trees and quaint beach houses dominate the colorful canvases. To complete the tropical theme, John used tikis and an abundance of tropical plants. A fresh flower arrangement with bird of paradise, protea and orchids ushers patrons into the ‘Aloha’ ambiance. Future plans include expansion into the patio area. John envisions his guests seated at teak tables with fountains gurgling in the background.

John Toma is exceeding his own high standards set at the Sunrize Café. Hukilau’s menu offers a number of breakfast and lunch possibilities including the Monte Cristo Omelet for $7.95. Bursting with ham, turkey, American and provolone cheese, the omelet is smothered in hollandaise sauce and sprinkled with paprika. On the side, cottage fries complement the dish and fresh fruit, including slices of honeydew melon, cantaloupe and orange, lend a tropical touch. The ‘Mango Salsa,’ which is also served on the side, is exciting tropics-inspired fare. The soft cubes of mango tossed with sweet red onions and cilantro make the dish unforgettable.

If you’ve heard the marvelous music of ‘Desi’ at the Sunrize Café you’ll recognize the Hawaiian repertoire as his rich tones fill the air to enhance your Hukilau experience. Listen to Desi’s mellow tunes while savoring Hukilau’s tropical blend of flavors.

Diner Debbie Forbes is excited about Hukilau because she lives in close proximity to the establishment. She’s happy to be able to frequent a restaurant that is almost at her own front door!

Since Hukilau roughly translates into ‘big fish catch’ in English, the restaurant will focus on Hawaiian seafood specialties when they begin dinner service on April 2. Other evening entrees will include, among other dishes, prime rib and Italian filet. Plans are also underway to expand the breakfast and lunch menu with Hawaiian dishes.

Hukilau is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. seven days a week. Breakfast is served all day and lunch service begins at 11:00 a.m. Beginning April 2, dinner will be served from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday with entertainment every evening. Hukilau at the Fallbrook Golf Club is located at 2757 Gird Road; please call (760) 728-8334 for further information.
