'Fresh' is the word at Major Market Deli

Looking for duck pté? Major Market Deli has it. How about sushi or flan? Look no further. In case you haven’t noticed, the Major Market Deli has been consistently growing and consistently increasing their line of deli items. The deli now employs a staff of 20, according to Deli Manager Maria Bazan. They have everything from six-foot sandwiches to complete prepared dinners. If you think that prepared dinners are just a step away from frozen dinners, you are wrong. Each deli dinner is made from fresh food each day so it tastes just like homemade! If something you try at the deli tastes suspiciously like your Aunt Mary’s recipe, your taste buds may not be deceiving you. Maria explains, “People bring in their own recipes and we try them. It’s great hometown service.”

Major Market now offers 30 different entrees, including Halibut, Pork Roast, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Monterey Chicken and Sea Bass. “You can eat one dish each day of the month and not have to repeat it,” said Maria with a smile. They offer a selection of fresh soups “made from scratch,” including Chicken Tortilla Soup and Clam Chowder, which is served every Friday. The Clam Chowder is creamy, thick and filled with carrots, potatoes and a generous serving of clams.

Fresh-made meatloaf is available every day and a wide variety of quiches are also offered. Major Market sells their own line of salsa, which has been growing in popularity. “We make salsa batches every three days,” said Maria.

Four different potato salad recipes are available, including the popular Country Potato Salad. The seafood and lobster salads are scrumptious. The Seafood Salad consists of imitation crab, bay shrimp, celery and green onions mixed with mayonnaise. My favorite is the Lobster Salad, which is loaded with fresh lobster!

The most recent addition to the deli is the line of bakery items. Parisian bread and fresh baguettes are made right on the premises. The bread is so popular that it is baked throughout the day, not just in the morning. Edie, a deli employee, has her own line of baked goods, including cornbread and carrot cake.

Where can you find a 25-cent cup of coffee in Fallbrook? At Major Market! Twenty-five cents buys a small cup of coffee from a wide selection, which includes Starbucks blends.

It is really “one-stop shopping,” as customers can purchase entrees, desserts and coffee in one location. “It’s an unbelievable food experience for our community,” said Sam Logan, owner of Major Market. “It is the fastest growing category in the store.”
