Sushi and fresh seafood abound at Young Sushi

There is still sake left from the grand opening last week and the sushi bar is already crowded! Young Sushi, an establishment boasting a sushi bar and Japanese restaurant, located 930 East Mission Road, is now serving up the same great food and hospitality as Young Kwon’s three other restaurants. Kwon has restaurants in Temecula, Point Loma and San Diego but he lives in Fallbrook. “I like the countryside,” he said.

He has been in the restaurant business for eleven years — for five years in his native Korea and six years in the San Diego area. “I am excited about having a restaurant in Fallbrook,” he said.

The ambiance at Young Sushi is relaxing with a brightly varnished wooden floor, Japanese parasols lining the walls and faux windows covered with Japanese screens. A plasma television tuned to ESPN is situated on the back wall.

The food is light, delicious and reasonably priced. Kevin Kim, restaurant manager, explained that their cooking method makes a difference where flavor is concerned. “It’s all about the heat,” he said. The chefs work with a Chinese wok as well as with a grill.

Young’s offers over thirty variations of sushi rolls, including maki, eel and California rolls. The dinner menu for young diners under eleven years offers dishes such as Beef Teriyaki with Steamed Rice and Miso Soup for $6.95 and a chicken version for $5.95.

The Teppanyaki Shrimp dish for $11.95 on the dinner menu is outstanding. The main course is complemented by a bowl of Miso Soup. Miso is a deliciously light soup made with tofu, green onions and seaweed. The Teppanyaki Shrimp is wok-tossed with succulent shrimp, broccoli, zucchini, bean sprouts, white onion, red bell pepper and carrots, then served sizzling along with steamed rice. The result is a delicious and healthful blend.

Party Platters full of sushi rolls and other Japanese delights are available by order only, and prices range from $35 to $99. Young Sushi is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then re-opens for dinner at 5:00 and closes at 10:00 p.m. The hours on Saturday and Sunday are from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. Call (760) 451-0077 for further information.
