The Martians do it better at Killer Pizza from Mars

You don’t have to be a space traveler or an alien to enjoy the food at Killer Pizza from Mars, the out-of-this-world restaurant located at 1125 S. Mission Road in the Albertsons Center. Even I, an earth-bound human, enjoyed the ‘Martian Melt,’ a roast beef sandwich served between two slices of toasted garlic bread topped with melted cheddar, mozzarella and provolone cheese. The ‘jus’ (broth) is served on the side. It’s a French dip sandwich, only the Martians do it better.

Killer Pizza’s ‘Cluck Rogerz’ pizza is an award-winning pizza served with “chikin, red unyunz, garlik, ranch dressing, tomatez, cilantro, Romano, Parmy and Motzerella.” A large pizza is $21.95.

Little and big aliens alike will be happy about the daily lunch specials for $5.57 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.), which include a choice of menu items and a 16-ounce soda. When diners or aliens order food at the counter their clothes turn neon and glow. Is this due to a “disturbance in the Force” or the even more mysterious black lights? I know but am not telling.

A galaxy full of space- and alien-related memorabilia lines the walls and dangles from the ceiling. “Star Wars: Episode II” cardboard figures of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi slice the air with their light sabers while Queen Amidala lords over the dining room sporting one of her rather bizarre hairstyles.

Diners may choose a variety of booths, each decorated with different photos and posters. Patrons may be guarded by the kindly gaze of Captain James T. Kirk or threatened by Darth Vader’s menacing stare. Pick your booth carefully because green aliens abound and some are even breaking through the ceiling. Pillars are painted with symbols that look like they could have been written by evil Klingons but were probably only painted by amiable Martians.

In the main dining room a large-screen television is perennially tuned to ESPN, which doesn’t have anything to do with space… oh, wait… what about the Houston Rockets?
