Trupiano's Italian Bistro

The décor has a simplicity that radiates tranquility. Nothing busy or overdone here — crystal lamps glow softly as Italian music drifts through the air. The fine-lined wood tables welcome guests to Trupiano’s Italian Bistro at 945 S. Main Street in Fallbrook. The food is found in shades of red and green — red from the sun-dried tomatoes and green from the many herbs used.

The Penne Vodka, although probably not traditional Italian fare since vodka is Russian, is a delightful blend of penne pasta, grilled chicken and vodka crème sauce. The dish is also served with bell pepper, onion and fresh basil. The unmistakable grilled flavor gives it a smoky taste and the vodka adds a hint of flavor but a touch of sweetness. Penne Vodka is served on an oversized plate along with twisted garlic sticks, which are brushed with an herb garlic butter glaze.

As for the desserts, Tiramisu and Spumoni Ice Cream are always available and most of the time diners may order the Crème Brûlée. The chef has the arduous process perfected with a hint of lemon flavor in the custard, but the best part is the thin caramelized top, which is melted with a special torch.

Faro Trupiano previously operated an Italian restaurant at the La Estancia Inn on Highway 395; however, the lease expired and he moved his business to town. “I am excited to be on Main Street, right in the heart of Fallbrook,” said Faro. “I remember just two years ago standing in this very parking lot and dreaming of one day occupying this building — and now my dream is a reality.”
