99 play in junior satellite tournament

The 19th Fallbrook Winter Junior Satellite Tournament attracted 99 players to the Fallbrook Tennis Club for the tournament.

The tournament began January 15, and rounds were also played January 16, January 22, and January 23. The tournament included six girls divisions and five boys divisions.

“I would say it was a very good tournament,” said tournament organizer Dorothy Roth.

Three of those divisions consisted of a round-robin format. Dante Saleh of Costa Mesa won the Boys 10 Singles and Tory Parravi of San Diego won the Girls 12 Singles. In the only doubles division in the tournament, the Murrieta duo of Amy Joy Omens and Ana Grady won the Girls 16 Doubles.

Alexandra Krogius of San Juan Capistrano won the Girls 8 Singles title after splitting sets with Alta Loma’s Natalie Penner and winning the tiebreaker, which eight-year-olds play instead of a third set. Krogius won the first set, 6-4, and Penner won the second set, 6-2, before Krogius prevailed in the 7-4 tiebreaker.

Temecula’s Hannah Oblachinski earned the Girls 10 Singles championship after a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Bonsall’s Jenna Willett in the finals. Escondido’s Stephanie Hoffpauir defeated San Diego’s Lauren Gray in a 6-1, 7-5 match to win the Girls 14 Singles.
