A stellar performance by FUHS JV wrestling

On Saturday, January 15, our FUHS “Band of Warriors” wrestling team went to the JV tournament held at Vista High School. Over 16 teams competed in this individual, double elimination tournament, with our JV team second place overall.

They also had the best show of weight classes on an individual level. Eight wrestlers placed: Jake Wagaman at 215 lbs. took first place with a 4-0 record (three pins, one decision) and was a finalist for Outstanding Wrestler in the upper weight class division; Vinny Granata at 125 lbs. took first place with a 3-0 record (three pins); Scott Newell at 171 lbs. took second place with a 2-1 record; Brent Barker at 135 lbs. took second place with a 3-1 record; Leonel Munguia at 275 lbs. took third place with a 3-1 record; Kenny Howell at 103 lbs. took fourth place; Garret Miller at 130 lbs. took fifth place; and Mike Dorman at 112 lbs. took sixth place.

There are only two more opportunities to see our wrestlers compete at home: a dual meet against El Camino at 5 p.m. today and the CIF tournament on Saturday, February 19. Don’t miss your chance to see them perform.

This is the second year in a row that we have had the honor of hosting the CIF tournament. Any business interested in placing an ad in the program should contact Bonnie Wagaman at (760) 723-3579 or e-mail to [email protected].
