Boys volleyball falls to Orange Glen

The Warrior boys volleyball teams played the Orange Glen Patriots, who came from Escondido to play Fallbrook on March 10.

The junior varsity teams play the best out of three games, and varsity teams play the best out of five.

Varsity

The first game of the varsity match was a warmup for both teams, it seemed. The Patriots and Warriors both inched up in points, side by side, until the score was tied 2-2. At this point the Patriots began to outscore the Warriors, but the Warriors fought back to catch up and came close at 12-14. Then, the Patriots started making consecutive points and ran their score up to 25. The game ended with the Warriors being outscored 13-25 in their first game.

The Warriors played better in the second game. Although the Patriots seemed to have a more experienced squad of players, the Warriors did tie the game at one point and were feeling in a good position with the score at 14-14. However, the Patriots made few errors and served well enough to put them up and above the Warriors with the final score of 18-25 in game two.

The Fallbrook varsity squad played their best game during the third time around. They took a lead at 5-4 and impressed the Patriots for a short time. Mike Bresnahan had a few very well hit jump serves, which is a service technique that every professional player of indoor and outdoor beach volleyball has been trying to master. It’s a difficult technique to use and sometimes the ball hits out of bounds or into the net, but it has a pleasing upside when used correctly. The Warriors bounced back and were right behind the Patriots during the middle of the third game, with a score of 13-15. The Patriots held their game together and finished by beating the Warriors 18-25 and wining three out of three of the games they played, therefore ending the match.

Junior varsity

The junior varsity volleyball team had the same fate as the varsity team. The JV team trailed the Patriots in the first game, then tied the game at 12-12 but fell behind shortly afterward. They came back up again and tied the game at 24-24 but ended up losing the game to the Patriots by two points, with a final score of 24-26.

In the second game between the two, the Warriors repeated history when they tied the Patriots again, as in the first game, 24-24. Somehow the Patriots managed to play slightly better and finished off the second game two points ahead of the Warriors, ending the match up in the second game with a score of 26-25.
