Fallbrook Niners end a festive year

FALLBROOK – The theme was a “Beary Merry Christmas” at the Fallbrook Golf Club on Dec. 12 when the Fallbrook Niners celebrated its 2013 season, installed a new board of directors, and announced tournament winners.

Incoming president Sue Mintun presented outgoing president Christie West with an engraved picture frame as a token of appreciation for her two years of service to the fun, ladies golf group which meets every Thursday.

In addition to enjoying a festive lunch and installing new officers, the Niners Christmas tradition is to participate in a silent auction of donated items and gift certificates. This year’s proceeds totaled over $900. Checks were subsequently delivered to the Wounded Warriors, Fallbrook Food Pantry, and the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the club championship awards. This year’s winners were Shiela Letts (low gross) and Hannah Kirby (low net).

The Niners were delighted to be represented, for the first time in their history, by a club champion who qualified to play in the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Tournament of Champions. Shiela Letts did not just play in the “Net Flights” event held in Palm Desert on Dec. 9 – she won fourth place in a field of primarily male golfers!
