Girls softball end of season tournament turns hot

The girls youth softball league closed out its season on Saturday, May 22. The girls teams were divided into three age groups: 8 and under (mini-minors), 10 and under (minors) and 12 and under (majors), all of which played their own season championship games that day.

The 8 and under Bumblebees won their first game (7-4) versus the first-ranked Red Hots, resulting in a second follow-up game. The Bumblebees held a strong lead in the second game but were narrowly beaten in the last inning by the Red Hots (8-7). The Red Hots held on to first place in the mini-minors and were given trophies, while the second place Bumblebees were awarded medallions.

The Bruisers came in ranked first in their minor division. The Bombers, in second place, battled the Bruisers for the first place standing. The Bruisers had tremendous success with their hitting and got their share of walks and hits to score 12 runs. The Bombers had a slow start and finished with five runs. The Bombers finished in second place in their division and the Bruisers remained in first to no surprise.

The majors played at three o’clock, but it was a different Red Hots team of 12-year-olds ranked in first place. It would take back-to-back wins for the second place Diamonds to take away their first place standing. The Diamonds’ strength was immediately shown in their hitting. The Red Hots played well, but nothing seemed to stop their opponents’ hits. The Diamonds won (8-5), which tied them for first place and resulted in a follow-up game.

The second game started well for the Red Hots. The Diamonds could not squeeze another run out of the last inning and the Red Hots became the second Red Hots team to eat up their challengers, beating the Diamonds (5-4). The Diamonds received their medallions and the Red Hots, still ranked in first place in the major league 12 and under girls, happily accepted their trophies.
