Junior tennis players succeed at tournament

FALLBROOK – Congratulations are in order for the three players who played in the Del Mar Junior Tournament Jan. 19 and 20. Sam Ashbrook, who has been playing for about 22 months, won first place in the Boys 12’s Novice division. Summer Aguirre, who has only been playing 10 months, placed second in the Girls 14’s Novice while younger brother Christian Aguirre, playing in his first tournament, placed third in Boys 10’s Novice.

Coach Amador said, “We have quite a few future tennis stars playing out of the Fallbrook, Bonsall area. The pro staff at the Fallbrook Tennis Club has a very active Junior Tennis Program catering to all levels of play from novice to open level players. We will keep you updated on our junior players as they begin the 2013 junior circuit.”

Coach Michael Amador’s Tennis Tips for adults

Ever wonder why you play tennis two to three times a week and barely lose weight?

The average length of a point in a match is about four to seven seconds. The average point is over within four to five hits. You only play 10 to 12 minutes of actual tennis if playing doubles in an hour and half tennis match – tired yet?

Singles would be 20 to 24 minutes of actual play. If you would like to see better weight loss results, play singles. It will improve your cardio; you will hit twice as many shots, and will see weight loss in all the right places. Sorry, each point will still last four to seven seconds but you will be doing all the work.
