The ups and downs of basketball

Freshman girls basketball

The freshmen girls had their game February 17 versus the Carlsbad Lancers. The Lancers are known for having a formidable basketball club that competes well with the Warriors; their matches usually end within two or three points of each other. The leading team would flip-flop back and forth, constantly motivating the opposing team to try to leapfrog to the front again. There was plenty of motivation for the freshmen and the Warriors gave 100 percent. The Lancers put the last bit of pressure on the trailing Warriors with the game near to a tie at 45 to 47. With the lead within reach, the Warriors played well and kept the Lancers in check, but the Lancers did even better by applying the pressure in the last minute to hold the Warriors from tying the game.

Boys junior varsity basketball

The varsity boys should be credited for a great comeback against the Carlsbad Lancers. The Warriors were not in the lead by the end of the first half and trailed the Lancers 10 to 15. This changed dramatically for the better in the second half, as the Warriors began to shave down the Lancers’ defensive strategy. The Lancers had no idea how to stop the Warriors’ new plan and their defense crumbled away as the Warriors came back. Within ten minutes the Warriors had fought back to take the lead at 47 to 31. Fallbrook played an outstanding game against the Lancers. The Warriors hadn’t beaten the Lancers by such a wide margin all season. The Warrior team was helped to victory by the high scorers: Ramon Galbreath with 20 points, Alex Samuelson with 12, and Nathan Robinson with nine.
