Wins and ties for Warrior soccer

Frosh girls

The Fallbrook High freshman girls soccer team, coached by Sarah Guerra, have had a good season with many wins.

In a match last Thursday against the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns, the Lady Warriors made their first goal when they crowded around the opposite net and their forwards got the ball past the confused Longhorn goalie, starting them off to a 1-0 lead.

Fifteen minutes later, Rancho Buena Vista followed up on a good play. The Longhorns all gathered closely together around the ball up against the Warriors’ net. The ball was kicked repeatedly until it rolled out of control to a Longhorn. Her shot was straight and came from so close it was not able to be blocked, tying the score.

The next 20 minutes went by without any goals. When the game was tied and nearly over, the Warrior girls made their last ditch efforts. The clock ticked down, but the Warrior girls could not pull out another goal. The game ended with the two teams tied 1-1.

Junior varsity soccer

Last Tuesday Fallbrook Coach Omar Benjoud and his boys junior varsity soccer team came onto the stadium field to play the Oceanside Pirates. Ten minutes into the game, the Warriors dribbled toward the opposite goal and set up their game plan. Warrior Nathan Timmes was the one to get the ball and he quickly turned and shot, scoring a goal for Fallbrook.

Close to halftime, the Pirates managed to score a goal. The Pirates’ shot was so hard it was blocked but knocked the Warriors’ goalie out of position. The ball then bounced to a Pirates player, who lobbed the ball into the goal, tying the game one to one. With the game almost over, the Warriors crossed the ball to Jorge Pimentel, who dribbled a short distance, then took his chances with a small net opening, his shot sneaking into the goal. The clock ran out with the Warriors winning by one goal, 2-1.

Varsity girls

Varsity Coach Ted Small and his girls soccer team played the Longhorns last Thursday after the junior varsity game. As soon as the Warriors were warmed up they began taking shots on goal. The first goal was a grounded ball into the net’s corner. The second happened when the Warriors set up a corner kick that took to the air, hit the top post and bounced off the goalie’s back into the goal.

The teams switched sides at halftime and the Warriors got the ball deep into Longhorn territory again, booting a straight shot into the net. The goal count rose once again in Fallbrook’s favor. The girls played an excellent game and defended their own goal, not allowing the Longhorns to score and ending the game 4-0.
