There is nothing in the text of the subject editorial that even suggests that our government intends to abridge our First Amendment freedom of speech or its corollary of freedom from speech (compelled speech). For instance, the Bill C-16 in Canada is presented as an example of compelled speech. It’s not: anti-discrimination does not equate to compelled speech. See “No, the Trans Rights Bill Doesn’t Criminalize Free Speech” (Vice). And the attempt to compel speech at Shawnee State University was just that: an attempt by a st...
For brevity, I will refer to the subject letter’s author as “you” and will not comment on its Trumpisms. You say: "Black Lives Matter thugs” have extorted billions of dollars from hapless businesses. Briefly, that’s ludicrous. You may want to believe otherwise, but the social justice reform movement is widely popular today, not only here but in other developed countries as well. You can get an idea of its broad scope here: “Companies Taking A Public Stand In The Wake Of George Floyd’s Death” (Forbes (6/04/2020). Th... Full story
No, Democrats don’t believe that the government will solve all problems. However, we do need to vote into office those best qualified to solve the problems the government is best qualified to solve and there are many. The author of the subject letter says: “Think, people, think!” The author should also advi... Full story

Maynard manages to go off the rails fairly quickly, invalidating his position entirely. For example, he mentions the Northern Democrats in passing, not noting how significant their influence was on the Party. The slavery issue divided the Democrats: the North Democrats stood fast – and so did the Southern Democrats, precipitating the Civil War. Ele... Full story
San Diego County supervisor Jim Desmond made a sales pitch for sending children back to school, based, he said, on science and data. He cited a study conducted in Iceland, where not one child passed the virus to their parents. It’s what he didn’t say that’s a problem. The data said that relative to COVID-19, the U.S. and Iceland are in no way comparable. Iceland flattened its curve, instituted extensive testing and most importantly conducted rigorous contact tracing. Countries with a very high positive rate are unlik... Full story
