OCEANSIDE, CA (May 6, 2024) – Tragedy struck Thursday night as two Marines from Camp Pendleton, Jacob Johnson and Eduardo Zambrano, lost their lives in a fatal car accident. The incident unfolded around 9:00 p.m. on southbound Interstate 5, near Cocklerburr Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that a silver Hyundai Genesis veered off the road, crashing into a parked Kenworth tractor-trailer. UPDATE: Ivan Paterson was apprehended, arrested and booked on two counts of attempted murder and one count of child cruelty. Both victims were female and transported with non life-threatening injuries, according to SDSO Lt. Davis. Ivan Paterson is 24 years old, 6'4" and 250 lbs. Manuel Leon, a 27-year-old construction worker from Fallbrook, husband, and father of three (wife is expecting in May), tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident while working as a traffic stop controller in Valley Center on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). UPDATE: According to NCFPD PIO John Choi, The BMW was found. It traveled about 30 feet down the embankment. The occupant/occupants were able to self extricate and were found standing by the side of the road. Unverified whether there were one or two occupants. No injuries were reported. At 8:45 am this morning a black BMW car was reported to have gone off the side of the I-15 southbound 1 mile south of Mission Rd onramp.
