Hughey didn't expect to play in 20 games as a freshman, but RedHawks coach Inako Puzo didn't limit playing time to Miami's more experienced players. "It was nice that the coach gave all of us an opportunity, all of the...

  • Shop at local merchants' stores

    Updated Jan 5, 2012

I usually make an effort to support our local Fallbrook merchants, even if the price is a little lower elsewhere (e.g. Internet, San Diego area, etc.). However, I must share a perfect example of how “buying local” does not necessarily mean “paying more.” We decided to buy a new BBQ grill, specifically a “Traeger” smoker grill. After searching the Internet, I selected a merchant offering free shipping and delivery within seven to 10 days. So before clicking “purchase,” I checked for local dealers. Lo and behold, Joe’s Hardware...

  • Re: 'Year in Review 2011' [Village News, 12/28/11]

    Updated Jan 5, 2012

I am baffled and saddened at the choice of a photo and the associated dialogue that was selected to appear in the newspaper. While I am happy to see Liberty quarry selected as an issue to be featured, as it has drawn thousands of Rainbow and Fallbrook residents together working to oppose this project, this photo is an insult to the people who have spent these last five-plus years working tirelessly on this cause. We stand up for what we believe is right and spend hundreds of hours and many days in our lives doing everything...

  • Mailing centers have surcharges

    Updated Jan 5, 2012

This holiday season, I learned a valuable lesson about mailing centers, like the UPS Store located in the Albertson’s shopping center. I am not writing this letter to dissuade anyone from using their services or cause them to go out of business; however, I wish to merely educate the public about doing business with these types of establishments. It is up to each customer to decide if a price for a service is worth the convenience. On Dec. 10, I went in with three packages to send to relatives in Hawaii. I was told that the c...

Whereas job seekers once sent their resumes to prospective employers via traditional mail, nowadays many companies prefer applicants utilize the company website to apply for open positions.
