  • Response to Mr. David Meyers regarding Iraq war

    Updated Jan 11, 2007

Mr. Meyers claims, “The Bush Administration’s plan was to use Iraq as a stepping stone to engage Iran and Syria.” If that was the case, why didn’t Bush say so at the time? The war was sold as an urgent matter of National Defense because Iraq actually possessed WMDs. Mr. Meyers believes that part of the rationale for the war was that Iraq “had one of the world’s most inhumane human rights records.” If that was our concern, we should be in Darfur, where many more people are being murdered right now. I think we don’t do anyt... Full story

  • A premise for criminal behavior

    Updated Jan 11, 2007

David Meyers stated in his recent letter (the Village News, 1/4/06) that, categorically, Saddam had WMDs because George Bush said so. And indeed he did, over and over. Remember just before the Bush War, when Bush stated that Saddam had WMDs, had used them against his own people and would use them again? In his radio address of February 8, 2003, one month before the war, Bush said, “…we have sources that tell us that Saddam Hussein recently authorized Iraqi field commanders to use chemical weapons – the very weapons the dicta...

  • The view from Utopia

    Updated Jan 11, 2007

A reported increase in robbery in San Diego County is an excellent barometer of the state of the economy. Always is – always will be! When the poorer segment of our population have no adequate legal income (e.g. a decent paying job), they will always find a way to put gas in their cars and food on their tables. It does no good for this administration to claim we have a “booming” economy when their barometer is based on the stock market, the Wall Street Journal and the number of unemployed. All that claptrap means is that...

  • Let's give thanks in the new year

    Updated Jan 11, 2007

So many people complain about the service they get at different establishments, including myself, so I would like to let everyone know about the Fallbrook Pharmacy. I changed pharmacies about two years ago and have received nothing but the best service. Everyone treats you like family. That pharmacy is run so efficiently. The other day my daughter had to take her father to the doctor and then take me to my doctor. She had two prescriptions to be filled. She went in and explained that I was waiting in the car, and they said,... Full story

Unfortunately, those who have contributed to the fund set up for Adam through...

  • Helping people in need

    Updated Jan 11, 2007

FALLBROOK — Discarded cell phones are needed for use by abused women and men in need of help. Tony Campbell, of Tony’s Treasures Thrift Store, is collecting phones and handing them out to people who might need them in an emergency. He explained that cell phones can be used to call 9-1-1 as long as their batteries are good; they don’t have to be connected to a phone plan to be used for that purpose. Campbell knows what it feels like to need help. When the wildfires in 2001 burned his De Luz home, he lost everything. The peopl...

With the help of licensed general contractor Justin Underwood, Fallbrook homeowners can improve one particular room or remodel an entire house. Underwood says one of his greatest joys is adding windows and decks to homes built here in the 1960s and ’70s that have not taken full advantage of the views their property offers. “In many cases, the views weren’t taken into consideration when the home was originally built...
