The San Diego Association of Governments board approved a memorandum of understanding between SANDAG and the Southern California Tribal Chairmen’s Association which would give SCTCA advisory membership on the SANDAG board. An event for junior enlisted Marine spouses was held at the Abby Reinke Community Center in December. It was hosted by Beverly DeVilbiss, assisted by members of Rally for Children and friends. The festive celebration began with a tea and a delicious luncheon prepared and served by Nancy Ruiz and Susan Abbott. A chocolate fountain provided everyone with a delectable dessert. Alex Young, a resident of Fallbrook since he was 1, makes it to the highest rank in Boy Scouting – Eagle – in a December ceremony at Mataguay Scout Reservation. Bob Watkins is the County of San Diego’s new representative on the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. Sheriff Bill Kolender recommended Watkins for the four-year term which expires on December 15, 2010, and on December 12 the San Diego County Board of Supervisors confirmed the appointment. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) recently reported that the number of both DUI arrests and fatalities for the New Year’s holiday weekend increased from last year’s figures. From 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2006, to 11:59 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2007, CHP officers statewide made 1,481 DUI arrests, up from 1,145 last year. On Saturday morning, January 6, approximately a dozen day laborers protested “Minutemen supporters.” The laborers said they had assistance in sign-making from four representatives of the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation. Sybil F. Edwards died peacefully December 27, 2006, in Phoenix, AZ. Sybil was born October 9, 1920, in Alabama to Armendia and Jesse Hyde. She was preceded in death by her dearest husband of 61 years, Guy Edwards, and her beloved son Danny. She was enrolled in nursing school when she met and married the love of her life. In 1946, after Guy was discharged from the Army/Air Force, the family moved to California and Sybil began her nursing career as a psychiatric nurse in a California State hospital.
